As we approach the end of the Academic Year, it’s now the time to celebrate your achievements!
As we approach the end of the Academic Year, it’s now the time to celebrate your achievements! This summer we will be hosting two award ceremonies, the Learning & Teaching Awards, and the Students’ Union Awards. Today we are opening nominations for both these awards, meaning if you know someone who you think deserves an award, you can put them forward!

Learning & Teaching Awards
The Students’ Union will be hosting The Learning & Teaching Awards 2022 ceremony in partnership with our LSBU colleagues.
These awards are a chance to recognise the outstanding contributions and dedication of academic staff, professional service staff and student volunteers to the educational experience at LSBU.
Award Categories
- Academic Advice Champion - This award is for an Academic Advisor or Personal Tutor who has provided you with excellent academic and/or pastoral support. Who can submit a nomination? Students?
Academic Community Event of the Year - This award is for an individual or group who have hosted an exceptionally engaging event designed to enrich the academic community and learning experience in their school.

Academic Society of the Year - This award is to recognise an academic society who have been exceptional at building community and adding value to the learning experience in their school, and/or have made a special effort to engage with under-represented groups. Who can submit a nomination? Staff & Students
Assessment & Feedback Champion award - This award is for a member of academic staff who sets the benchmark in assessment and feedback. They provide detailed and helpful feedback in a timely manner and create an environment to ensure students achieve their best possible outcomes. Who can submit a nomination? Students?
Course Rep of the Year - This award is for a course rep who has gone above and beyond to make sure the views of their peers are represented, helping colleagues understand the learning experience from the students’ perspective and working collaboratively towards making positive change. Who can submit a nomination? Staff & Students
Dissertation Supervisor of the Year - This award is for a supervisor who has provided outstanding dissertation support to one or more.tudents. Who can submit a nomination? Students?
Diversity in Curriculum Award - This award recognises a member of teaching staff who has made efforts to diversify the content of their curriculum through highlighting less well-known contributions and providing multiple perspectives for students to experience their subject. This may include, but is not limited to: making efforts to ensure their teaching content is reflective of the student body; and making efforts to engage students with underrepresented perspectives.

Employability Enhancement Award - This award is for a member of staff who has actively sought to enhance students’ skills and employability. Who can submit a nomination? Students?
Innovative Use of Technology Award - This award is for a lecturer, supervisor, tutor who uses technology innovatively to really enhance their delivery of learning and teaching. This award is specific to the use of technology.

Learning Resources Champion - This award is for a lecturer, supervisor, who has provided you with the excellent learning resources you need to facilitate your learning. Staff from other eligible departments include, but are not limited to Library Services. Who can submit a nomination? Students?
Lecturer of the Year - This award is for an outstanding all-round lecturer who is enthusiastic about their subject, shows commitment to getting the best out of their students and who's teaching always leaves them wanting more.

PGR Supervisor of the Year award - This award is for a supervisor who has provided outstanding support to one or more.ostgraduate research students. Who can submit a nomination? Staff & Students
Postgraduate Teaching Champion - This award is for outstanding teaching or support to postgraduate students.

Student Voice Champion - This award is for a member of academic or support staff who has demonstrated an outstanding commitment to student representation. Nominations for this award may only be made by Course Reps and School Reps. Who can submit a nomination? Students?
Support Staff Member of the Year - This award is for a member of non-academic staff who has provided an exceptional service for students. Staff from eligible departments include but are not limited to Advice and Counselling Service, Disability and Dyslexia Service, Student Health Service and IT services. Who can submit a nomination? Unsung Hero - This award is for that hard-working member of staff tucked away behind the scenes, almost unnoticed, but whose work has a real impact on the quality of your life at LSBU. Staff from eligible departments include but are not limited to Library Services, Administrative staff, Estates and Facilities. Who can submit a nomination? Staff & Students
VP Education Special Thanks and Recognition (STAR) Award - This is a special award recognising an outstanding contribution towards working in partnership with the Students’ Union this year.
Who can submit a nomination? Not open for nominations: this award will be determined by the shortlisting panel.?
Students’ Union Awards
We are bringing back the Students’ Union Awards to an in-person event this year to celebrate your hard work and achievements! This year the awards are open to anyone who has been involved with the Student’ Union, including Clubs, Societies, Council Members, and anyone who helped out at the Students’ Union.
Award Categories
- Committee of the Year This award recognises the exceptional commitment and achievement of a committee. These committee members have had a measurable impact on the students and have made every effort to show resilience and innovation during the pandemic. This award is open to any committee across our student groups.
- Community Spirit Award - This award celebrates those that have created a community feel for students despite the challenges presented by the pandemic this academic year. This could be through the work they do or the values they demonstrate. This award is open to both individuals and student groups.
- Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Champion Award - This award can be for a project, person, or campaign that has been centred around diversity and inclusion. It can be a committee that actively worked hard to get more.embers of an underrepresented group to join their activities or an individual who is a role model to others on what it means to be inclusive and set a precedent for this being at the core of what they do.
- Event of the Year - This award is to recognise an event that showcased what that student group does and has proven a success with their attendees. This could be shown through the level of planning behind the event, how an event was marketed, and/or enjoyment from attendees. This award is open to any event that took place in the 2021-22 academic year that was organised by a South Bank Students' Union affiliated group or volunteer, excluding Academic related events. There is a separate 'Academic Community Event of the Year' award at the Learning & Teaching Awards.
- Most Improved Student Group Award - This award is to recognise the hard work and efforts a student group has put into the development of their group. This could be shown through how they have driven new memberships, organised new activities, or established a plan for the growth and sustainability of the group. This award is open to both new and existing South Bank Students' Union affiliated student groups.
Outstanding Contribution to Societies - This award recognises the success of an individual who has gone above and beyond to contribute to the development of societies within the Students' Union. This could be a committee member who has helped lead the society or a student who has helped with the running of one.
Outstanding Contribution to Sports - This award recognises the success of an individual who has gone above and beyond to contribute to the development of sports clubs within the Students' Union. This could be for any student who plays for a team, assists in training, and/or is a committee member.
Outstanding Contribution to the Students' Union - This award recognises a student who has displayed an outstanding degree of commitment to the Students’ Union during their time at the university through their voluntary work. This award is open to anyone who has volunteered for the Students’ Union, including student groups and student council members.
Society of the Year - This award goes to the society that engaged students the most and had the greatest impact through their society, creating a community for its members. This award is open to all interest-based (i.e. non-academic) societies that are affiliated with South Bank Students’ Union. There is a separate Academic Society of the Year Award that you can submit nominations for at the Learning & Teaching Awards.
Sports Club of the Year - This award is for a club that has offered the best service to its members, contributed to the development and promotion of sport at LSBU, and has made significant contributions to improving their club.
Team of the Year - This award is for an individual team within a club (e.g. Netball 2nd; Badminton Women’s Team) showing outstanding performance in their league or competition. This award is open to teams taking part in all levels of competition.
